Privacy Policy
My practice is bound by PHIPA (the Personal Health Information Protection Act), which governs the collection, use and disclosure of your personal health information. To intervene in your health and healing, it is necessary for me to collect personal information. This includes your profile and treatment record, which I must keep for 10 years from the date of our last interaction. My licensing body, the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) also requires that I maintain a record of our contacts and financial dealings for 5 years. The file I accumulate is your personal health information, and you have access to it within 30 days of making a request; you are subsequently entitled to correct errors in your file after discussion.
I make every reasonable effort to protect your information from unauthorized access. Paper files are kept in a restricted-access, locked cabinet and, if transported, protected in a locked portfolio. Electronic information and electronic technology is secure, confidential and appropriate in the circumstances and is safeguarded by firewalls and passwords.
I offer virtual sessions only through ZoomPro. Zoom meetings are considered relatively safe to use. To safeguard your confidentiality, I implement features such as enabled waiting rooms, locked meetings and the ability to remove participants. Zoom has addressed past major security gaps within its platform and is focused on staying on top of the latest vulnerabilities. Because no electronic communications tools (audio, video, email, text) are absolutely secure, as a potential client you will be asked to acknowledge the potential risk, particularly my inability to ensure security and confidentiality, by signing a “Consent for Teleconsultation” intake document.
Please also note that I am unable to respond to contact requests on social media (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn), since these platforms are in the public domain and often threaten confidentiality.
